Of animals, I am not making any attempt to defend the elite’s pagan human sacrifice practices at all.
As an apologist I often get asked, and often had asked myself as a former atheist is ‘How can God allow blood sacrifice?’
And admittedly, this is one of the most difficult questions to address. I am making this post to record some thoughts I had in discussion with my wife today on this very topic.
1. The Levitical priesthood survived without land and income of the traditional sort (farming, etc) by the prescribed eating of certain leftover temple sacrifices to God, thereby – those who sinned against Gods law paid a sizable fine in accordance with their income, great or small – of food, paid to the local priest in accordance with Gods perfect law. It actually formed an excellent checks and balance system against crime and corruption, and the penalty is the most basic of blessings God bestows upon mankind – Food.
Break the law, you lose some food!
As for the blood itself, which God tells us is the Life essence of a creature, we are not to eat it – but in this particular penalty of offering food to God as penance, and feeding the local priests whose job was to uphold righteous law and doctrine, (an important job that has fallen to the wayside in modern churches) I believe the blood is a merely symbolic offering to God as a ritual and reminder for mankind to keep the law, but also that it was through Sin that we fell into mortality and death entered into the world – and through Adam’s sin, our flesh now demands the death of other flesh in order to sustain itself, as we are mortal creatures. And every time we kill to eat, we should perhaps remember that it was because of Adam’s fall that we must do so. If the blood is the life, each time the food offering was sacrificed by the priests unto God and the blood was spilled on the altar, it was – in essence and in symbol, an apology to God for having Sinned. It was not through Gods design that we were here to kill and die, but through our having grown more distant from him through sin, and falling into frailer mortal existences by doing so.
And I am not advocating a meatless diet, which is both unhealthy and contrary to Gods dietary prescriptions (Grass fed healthy happy meat is a heavily nutrient dense food, and organ meats especially healthy)
2. One can easily make an argument that all sin sacrifice was, in essence, a foreshadowing of the true sacrificial lamb – Yeshuah (Jesus) Christ. Whose perfect, sinless blood ultimately paid the price of all mankind’s sin. For if one sinless man’s Sin can bring all mankind into death – one Sinless man’s sacrificial death can redeem it.
Ultimately, the why is tricky to explain, but its much like Math. God is not capable of lying, or swearing upon a name greater than His own – or creating a triangular square, etc, because it violates his own rules that are in place governing this creation.
If God is Truth, and cannot lie – and Gods rules are perfect, eternal, and unchanging – then God had to find a way to outsmart his own eternal rules to save Adam and Eve (and all of mankind) from eternal distance from God and ultimate damnation (Separation from God, alongside some pretty nasty fallen angels, demons, and histories worst characters) in a pretty nasty prison meant to keep the bad things away from the children He loves, who chose to love Him back. He did this through a substitutional sacrifice of his own Son. Because someone had to pay that price, that’s the Law – and God is bound to his law as he is unable to Lie.
Would any parent do anything less for their own children?
You see, His Story is a love story with humanity. God has been courting us since day one, and we just keep cheating on him for selfish personal short term materialistic desires.
During the millennial kingdom it looks like sacrifices will be started up again. And I do believe that perhaps sacrifices are happening in the temple in heaven.
But nowhere in scripture is there any type of announcement of a transition or alteration from the Torah just because the Messiah fulfilled the law as he said was his mission.
We see in Acts 21 that the apostle Paul still went into the temple to offer sacrifices.
The apostle John tells us that we are to keep His commandments
The seventh day Sabbath was made a really really really really big deal all throughout the old testament, and we see first century believers still respecting that day. You would think that if all that had changed there would be some type of an announcement. But there isn’t…
For it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, coming into the world, He says, “Slaughtering and meal offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. “In ascending offerings and offerings for sin You did not delight. “Then I said, ‘See, I come – in the roll of the book it has been written concerning Me – to do Your desire, O GOD.’ ” Saying above, “Slaughter and meal offering, and ascending offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor delighted in,” which are offered according to the Torah, then He said, “See, I come to do Your desire, O GOD.” He takes away the first to establish the second. By that desire we have been set apart through the offering of the body of Yahusha/𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 Messiah once for all. And indeed every priest stands day by day doing service, and repeatedly offering the same slaughter offerings which are never able to take away sins. But He, having offered one slaughter offering for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of GOD, waiting from that time onward until His enemies are made a footstool for His feet.
– Hebrews 10:4 – 13
Jesus himself was circumcised, as he did all that was RIGHT in the Fathers eyes.
He taught the resurgence of the law, not the doing away of the law. This is a major jewish deception of today. 99% of Christians are Pagans and do not even try to follow YHWHs’ law. Maybe they go for the 10 commandments from Moses, thats it.
It’s weird. It’s weird in the same way that animal sacrifice is weird. Why would God want things to keep dying for us?
I explain that here: https://theserapeum.com/in-defense-of-blood-sacrifice/
As for circumcision..
It’s a covenant signed in blood, a contract with God. But also a symbolic shedding of the mortal coil – the fleshly body focused on fleshly things (and what part is MORE focused on fleshly things than the tip of ones penis?)
it’s merely a REMINDER to us, everytime we go to act in a lustful way, that Coram Deo -God is Watching.
But even beyond that.
If you went to Africa, they were eating each other.
If you went to South America, they were cannibalizing and eating each other and mass human sacrificing.
Some cultures cripple infants by breaking their feet (chinese girls)
Some cultures walked on hot coals (risking major injury lifelong disability) to earn manhood
Some risked their very life for that status as a mere coming of age ritual.
Some required the shedding of OTHER peoples innocent blood
Some place rings around their neck until they look like giraffes, or huge bones through their noses and ears and nipples and flesh.
Some engage in scarification, scar tattoos.
Of all these.
Circumcision is the most poetic, noble, and pointed. and the least painful
Circumcision is the outward mark you or your child belongs to YHVH.
““And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall become a sign of the covenant between Me and you.”
Berĕshith (Genesis) 17:11
But for adults who are uncircumcised, circumcision of the heart must come before the body, and obviously that’s the only circumcision that women have. However if we are walking in Truth already, we circumcise our infant sons on the 8th day because that is the day when their Vitamin K levels and clotting factors kick in because our Creator has made boys/men to be circumcised.
New Testament only believers don’t understand it and think that Paul taught against it. What he was against was new converts being told by the “Circumcision Party” at the time that they had to be circumcised first before they could learn the Torah.
“And some of the believers who belonged to the sect of the Pharisees, rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the Torah of Mosheh.””
Ma`asei (Acts) 15:5 TS2009
“For those who are circumcised do not even watch over the Torah, but they wish to have you circumcised so that they might boast in your flesh.”
Galatiyim (Galatians) 6:13 TS2009
“The circumcision is naught (nothing), and the uncircumcision is naught (nothing), but the guarding of the commands of Elohim does matter!”
Qorintiyim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 7:19 TS2009
So Paul was against coerced physical circumcision PRIOR to circumcision of the heart, belief in Yeshua, and the practicing of walking in the instructions of Torah. We see this when he went on and circumcised Timothy after the whole debate about it even because Timothy wanted to and was ready. (Acts 16:3).
““And now, Yisra’ĕl, what is יהוה your Elohim asking of you, but to fear יהוה your Elohim, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to serve יהוה your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being, to guard the commands of יהוה and His laws which I command you today for your good? “See, the heavens and the heaven of heavens belong to יהוה your Elohim, also the earth with all that is in it. יהוה delighted only in your fathers, to love them. And He chose their seed after them, you above all peoples, as it is today. And you shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and harden your neck no more.”
Deḇarim (Deuteronomy) 10:12-16 TS2009
