This was a very popular epic poem that was likely based on an unidentified older legend, possibly from Mesopotamia or Egypt, about an ancient creation story that traces the lineage of mankind through five successive “ages” or “races” including the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, the Age of Heroes, and the present (according to to Hesiod) Iron Age.
