Occult 101: A Glimpse Behind the Veil

Aleister Crowley (12 October 1875 – 1 December 1947) was an English occultist and ceremonial magician. He founded the religion of Thelema, identifying himself as the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the early 20th century.

Born to a wealthy family in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, Crowley rejected his parents’ Christian faith to pursue an interest in esoteric occult.

In 1898 he joined the esoteric Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and OTO lodges wherein it is sometimes believed Charles Manson frequented some of its California locations.

Moving to Boleskine House by Loch Ness in Scotland, Crowley claimed to have been contacted by a supernatural entity named Aiwass beginning during time in Egypt. The alien-looking ufo occult entity provided him with The Book of the Law, a sacred text that served as the basis for Thelema.

Announcing the start of the Æon of Horus, The Book declared that its followers should “Do what thou wilt” and seek to align themselves with their True Will through the practice of magick.

Lam: Crowley’s Gray Alien

In February 1904, Crowley and Rose arrived in Cairo. Claiming to be a prince and princess, they rented an apartment in which Crowley set up a temple room and began invoking ancient Egyptian deities, while studying Islamic mysticism and Arabic. According to Crowley’s later account, Rose

regularly became delirious and informed him “they are waiting for you.” On 18 March, she explained that “they” were the god Horus, and on 20 March proclaimed that “the Equinox of the Gods has come”. She led him to a nearby museum, where she showed him a seventh-century BCE mortuary stele known as the Stele of Ankh-ef-en-Khonsu; Crowley thought it important that the exhibit’s number was 666, the Number of the Beast in Christian belief, and in later years termed the artefact the “Stele of Revealing.”

According to Crowley’s later statements, on 8 April he heard a disembodied voice that claimed to be that of Aiwass, the messenger of Horus, or Hoor-Paar-Kraat. Crowley said that he wrote down everything the voice told him over the course of the next three days, and titled it Liber AL vel Legis or The Book of the Law. The book proclaimed that humanity was entering a new Aeon, and that Crowley would serve as its prophet. It stated that a supreme moral law was to be introduced in this Aeon, “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”

Crowley, the Occult fiend, who prized being called “the wickedest man in the world,” died a very poor miserable man. He spent much of the last of what he had in sex blood rituals, many involving drinking the blood of goats with intercourse with goats, as his cash supply dwindled before his many evictions. He died a broke drug addict.

Aleister Crowley was also reported as a keen follower of the Occult of Helena Blavatsky.

Helena Blavatsky and the Occult

Helena Blavatsky spent her life insisting that the Holy Scriptures were wrong, it was really Lucifer who was the ‘Good and Just God’, victimized by the harsh and unjust Yahweh.

Blavatsky maintained that the name Satan, belonged by right to the first and cruelest “Adversary” of all other Gods, and not to the serpent which spoke only words of sympathy and wisdom. She somehow reasoned that Satan/Lucifer is GOD the creator, the Savior, the Father; and that Jesus is “the first born brother of Satan.”

She wrote, “Satan, the Serpent of Genesis, is the real creator and benefactor, the Father of Spiritual mankind. For it is he who opened the eyes of Adam created by Yahweh, as alleged an adversary to him – he still remains in Esoteric Truth the ever loving messenger who conferred on us spiritual instead of physical immortality.”

She claimed to have had experience with astral projection and the ability to communicate with the spirit world. Her books, ‘Isis Unveiled’ and her three-volume, ‘The Secret Doctrine’ were supposedly channeled through her by the “Masters of Wisdom,” Tibetan ‘holy men’. In her book, ‘The Secret Doctrine’ Blavatsky wrote, “Lucifer represents life, thought, progress, civilization, liberty, independence.

Lucifer is the Logos, the Serpent, the Saviour ~~ Blavatsky claimed.

“It is Lucifer who is the God of our planet and the only God”, and she continues, “The celestial Virgin which thus becomes the Mother of Gods and Devils at one and the same time, for she is the ever loving beneficent deity, but in antiquity and reality, Lucifer or Luciferius is the name. Lucifer is the divine and terrestrial light, the Holy Ghost and Satan at one and the same time”.

When Blavatsky died in 1891, Annie Besant, a militant feminist, co mason, and a member of the Fabian Socialist Society of England took over the reigns of leadership. After Besant, came Alice Bailey and her husband, Foster Bailey, a 32nd Degree Freemason. Having assumed the leadership of the Theosophical Society together, they formulated and built the foundations of what we now refer to as the New Age Movement.
